Desley has been custom quilting my quilts for many years. She does beautiful freehand work and has a special talent for knowing what design of quilting will make my quilts sing.
I have always been interested in sewing and craft, but from the moment I started my first quilt, I knew I had found my passion. That was the first of many quilts to follow.
In 2003 I decided to make my hobby my profession, and invested in an APQS long arm machine with stitch regulator.
I quilt everything freehand from the front of the machine. It's like I'm drawing on the quilt with stitches. This is good for my customers as it allows a lot of flexibility and individuality of quilting design. If I can draw it on paper, then I can quilt it!
I have developed many original freehand designs, which can be made smaller or larger to complement each individual quilt and I can easily work around appliqué. If there is any fullness or unevenness in the quilt top, I am more easily able to evenly distribute this for a better-looking finish.
In 2008 I purchased a second machine which is much lighter, making it easier for me to do delicate custom work. I have won a number of awards with both my own and customers' quilts and in 2010, I was thrilled to win the "Excellence in Long Arm Machine Quilting" award at the Vic. Quilters Showcase.
As a quilt maker myself, I appreciate the time and personal effort that my customers have gone to in making their quilts, and treat every one with the utmost care and consideration.
